How Tutoring Works

What tutors will do:

  • Listen to your questions and guide you step by step
  • Help you understand key concepts and course material
  • Show you how to solve similar problems
  • Ask questions to build your problem-solving skills
  • Help you find and fix common mistakes
  • Share helpful resources for extra support

What tutors won’t do:

  • Complete or check all your homework
  • Help with exams or quizzes
  • Teach full lessons in place of your instructor
  • Proofread assignments your instructor expects you to complete on your own

Virtual Tutoring Options

Online Tutoring Center

Focused, one-on-one tutoring sessions are available online and can be started using our online drop-in tutoring system. This tutoring is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Note: Not all subjects are offered at all times.

Would you rather schedule a tutoring session? We offer limited online tutoring outside of our regular business hours. 

Technology and Computer Tutoring Labs 

You can get help in our Open Computer Labs with many of your tech and online course needs. Tutors are available to support you in classes like IT 1004 and BCIS 1110, as well as with distance learning and general technology questions.

Join Lab 1 (Zoom)

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Friday,  9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Subjects: BCIS 1110, IT 1004, Keyboarding, Office 365, Creative Cloud, Substance Suite
Join Lab 2 (Teams)

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Subjects: CIS-CS Programming, Cisco Networking, Proxmox VM Support

Virtual Writing Center

The Virtual Writing Center is a helpful resource if you aren't able to see a tutor in person or in an online tutoring session. One of our experienced writing tutors will give you feedback on academic essays via email. Interested? Visit the Virtual Writing Center webpage to learn more.

In-Person Tutoring Options

Focused, one-on-one tutoring sessions are available at the following campuses: Main, Montoya, Rio Rancho, and West Side. No appointment is needed, but you may want to call ahead to ensure that a tutor is available in the subject you are seeking.
